Following the Lord’s Calling
Shine Walker traces her business’s origins back to a calling from God to be a good steward of her resources and passions. Inspired by the Parable of the Talents, she wants to use her talents to benefit the community and provide a positive and supportive work environment.
Shine began Salt + Light as a real estate company in 2022 because she has always been passionate about home and helping people find their home here in Guam. However, she didn’t want to just focus on the four walls; she wants to help you with the building, renovating, and furnishing process that creates a space for meaningful gathering.
Originally envisioning a small boutique furniture store with a small selection of inventory, Shine could never have imagined the rapid growth her company would undertake in just one year.

Guided by Values
The Salt + Light team begins every morning with a recitation of their core values that drive their business. Those values of faith, excellence, stewardship, growth, collaboration, hospitality, integrity, passion, intentionality, and creativity all stem from the Lord’s vision and drive all the business’s decision making. Shine describes her design aesthetic as organic, modern, quiet luxury that is built to last.

Shine saw that challenge and wants to ensure that you can purchase excellent pieces at an attainable price point. To do this, Salt + Light develops a lot of their products.
- Beginning with a mood board, the team looks for repeating themes to choose their design’s direction.
- Boucle, linen, mohair, and velvet are the fabrics that are currently speaking to the team, and they aim to make their pieces trend-proof and enduring.
All wooden pieces are made with solid wood rather than the cheaper, plentiful particle board alternative.
Intentionality is steeped into their design process with the why being at the forefront.
Each product tells a story and always carries a purpose. For example, Shine is excited to be developing an accent chair that will feel like a warm and comforting hug from a teddy bear. You can’t go wrong with a cozy, one-of-a-kind piece like that!
Giving Back
In line with her commitment to tithing and giving back, Shine is proud to support multiple nonprofits and community initiatives.
Salt + Light has hosted Safe Haven’s benefit gala for four years and raised around $75,000 last year. In the summer Salt + Light hosts an ice cream social and backpack drive for Harvest House, and the business hosts a Friendsgiving for Friends in Need on Thanksgiving. As a strong supporter of nonprofits, Shine is committed to multiplying resources through her robust philanthropic support.
