BWTC Presents Romeo & Juliet [PG-13]

BWTC Presents Romeo & Juliet [PG-13]

Breaking Wave Theatre Company Presents: Romeo & Juliet

by William Shakespeare in a modern verse translation by Hansol Jung.

Directed by Joyce Torres, BWTC’s Romeo & Juliet reimagines the classic tale in contemporary Guam, blending Shakespeare’s poetry with Chamoru, Tagalog, and Chuukese. Kicking off Mes Chamoru in March 2025, this adaptation celebrates our island’s diversity while reclaiming Western narratives through a lens that’s uniquely ours.

This timeless story of love is a blend of comedy, romance, and tragedy. At its heart are two queer young lovers, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, whose deep connection blossoms amidst the playful and heartfelt moments of young love. However, the ongoing rivalry between their families brings both joy and heartache as they navigate the expectations and pressures of loyalty, family, and choice. The production also features original music, dancing, and fighting, all deeply rooted in modern and cultural traditions, adding a vibrant, unique flavor to this classic tale.
