James Cameron Arrives on Guam; Ready to Dive Challenger Deep

While he waits only for the weather to clear, director James Cameron is ready to dive the deepest point in the ocean, the Challenger Deep. After performing test dives in Papua New Guinea, Cameron and crew arrived on Guam via the Mermaid Sapphire.

Cameron’s one-man submersible is the stuff of science fiction. During the dive nearly 7 miles down into the eery darkness of the unknown, Cameron’s Deep Sea Challenger will shrink 2.5 inches. See video of the submarine in this Pacific News Center interview with Cameron.
