Getting Married in Paradise

Many people dream of the perfect intimate ocean side wedding ceremony. Whether your dream wedding is ocean side or a lavish ceremony in a grand location, Guam has it all. Here is your simple guide to getting married on Guam.

Step 1

Make sure you have photo identification such as a drivers license or a passport and birth certificates for both bride and groom.

For non-U.S Citizens, a “Marriage License Affidavit” form from the Office of Vital Statistics must be completed and notarized on Guam. Notary Publics can be found in the Yellow Pages of the local telephone directory or any bank. Rates range from $10-$25 per notarized document.

Step 2

Both parties need to be present to fill out the marriage application at the Vital Statistics Office located at the Public Health building in Mangilao:

Department of Public Health and Social Services
Office of Vital Statistics (first floor)
123 Chalan Kareta Route 10
Mangilao, Guam 96923
Tel: (671) 735-7292/7263/7185/7280
Fax: (671) 734-5910

The application is also available online.

Step 3

Pay the fees, which were $30 as of August 2011. There is a mandatory five-day waiting period between when the application is filed and the license is issued. The license is valid for 60 days after it is issued. After that, the process starts again.

To waive the 5 day waiting period required for processing of the marriage license, an affidavit of “Good Cause Shown” must be completed and filed with the Office of Vital Statistics. A non-refundable fee of $50 will be assessed for the wavier, if approved.

Step 4

After commencement of the ceremony, you must take the executed marriage certificate to the Office of Vital Statistics located in first floor of the Department of Public Health and Social Services building in Mangilao within 10 working days.

A certified copy of your marriage certificate will be provided to you within a few minutes. A non-refundable fee of $10 will be assessed for each certified copy of the marriage license.
